In your own word what has happened in the book? At any point in the story, retell the major details of the story's plot so far. The story begins with the dinner from the family Birling and Gerald. They are celebrating the engagement of Sheila and Gerald in the dining room. The atmosphere is good. Then the doorbell rings and an inspector named Goole enters. The inspector is talking about a woman who killed herself with disinfectant. At first, the family doesn't know what to do with this informations. But then it turns out that all of them once had something to do with the woman and that they were to blame for her death. When the inspector left the house, Gerald found out that there was no inspector named Goole in the town. Mr and Mrs Birling are in a good mood, because they were afraid of bad press. Sheila and Eric can't understand the parents that they don't learn anything from it. The two siblings have learned something from this and will be more...

Characterization: Describe a character from the book (e.g. physical characteristics, personality, likes, dislikes). Say why you like / dislike the character. Mr. Birling: Birling is practically the head of the family. He owns a production company, called Birling and Company. The success of this company makes the middle-class life of his family possible. He also believes in capitalism and that it is good for society. Birling is a person interested in politics who cares about money. If he had to choose between the well-being of a stranger and his profit, he would choose money. That's what I think makes him very unpleasant. Characterization: Write a short letter to the author/playwright or to one of the characters. Tell them what is on your mind. Dear Sheila What you did to Daisy wasn't really nice, but you realized it wasn't good. Even if you only recognized it through the inspector, I think it's good. I hope you will pay more attention to the c...

Emphaty: Say in what ways you wish a character would change/develop or what you would like to happen in the life of some character. I wish Mr and Mrs Birling would change. They should learn from Sheila and in different life situations they should also feel themselves inside the body of another person and think about how that person feels when they quit him or don't help them although they are in the position for this . I wish Sheila and Gerald a wonderful wedding and a unique honeymoon. As long as they make one. They should live happily together for the rest of their lives. I want Eric to be able to separate himself from the alcohol and find a woman who will give him a footing. I think Eric needs someone which he can trus. I hope he doesn't have to return the stolen money. But as I have met Mr. Birling, he will unfortunately not do so. I would do the same in Eric's situation if my parents were the same. Asking would of course be better, but...

Reflection: At any point, write about how you feel while reading a section of the book. Say how what is happening makes you feel and why? I just finished reading the book. And the ending is really exciting. You can see the real character of the Birling parents. They were just relaxed and happy that there was no scandal. Like little kids, they don't learn anything from all this. That disappointed me a little. Eric and Sheila are very different and I think that's great. Sheila has to tell parents that all this could have really happened. I think she's never gonna do to anyone else ever again what she did to Daisy/Eva. I wonder how you can be as blind as the Birling parents. They think only of themselves. As soon as there are no consequences for them, they show no remorse and I think both would do the same again. Who knows, maybe this will actually drive someone to their death. You can really compare them to little children because they only learn when they fee...

Analysis: Are there any words your are unsure of their meaning? Write down the words. Then write down what you think they mean, guessing from the context. Then look them up and write down a dictionary. rates --> first i thought it means the plural of the animal rat. But in the context i think it's the money for the workers. LEO says that they are the costs, which you have to pay at the city or country. Analysis: Name 5 of the main themes of the novel or play. The first main theme is the behavior of each person in social life. You can see that the inspector of the family shows what everyone has done wrong. The second main theme is equality. In the Birling family, the men's are the chefs. Another main topic is the r elationship between different people. You can also see that two people do not always think the same way about a relationship. Responsibility is an important main theme. At the end of the book one sees who is aware of the respons...
